Monday Mission 3.08

Posted by: Yoggie    in Monday Mission

1. Has anyone ever told you that you needed to lose weight or change something about yourself physically? Who told you and what impact did it have on your life? Your perception of yourself?
Yes, my weight and my hair loss, by my wife no less (she was joking about the hair). I’ve lost some weight (20 lbs in the last three months, don’t ask me how) and now I’m down to below 200 lbs (over a 5’10″ frame). just want my washboard tummy back. The hair I intend to just let be, though I really want to shave it all off.

2. Do enjoy the snow and cold weather?
Yeah, when I can get it. We don’t have much of it in Georgia seacoast.

3. Visualize the perfect winter evening. Are you alone or with someone? How does the evening start? How does it end, and everything in-between.
My aren’t we nosy. I am with my wife by a cozy fire, and *rest of text deleted for strong sexual content and references to total immersion in dark chocolate*.

4. I’ve noticed that people I work with, even no more than 6 feet away, would rather e-mail me a message than turn around and speak to me. Same goes for voice mail, I find I get more calls when I am away than when I am available to speak to someone. So many things that could be said face-to-face are now accomplished electronically. Do you think that technology has had allowed relationships and human interaction to become less personal? Is this a good thing?
It is way less personal that it used to be. It could be a good thing for people who are not as gregarious as most. Though it is bad that we just don’t get physical any more.

5. One thing I’ve always wanted to learn is how to juggle. I’m pretty good with my hands, so I am sure I could do it. Yet, I’ve never made the commitment to sit down and learn how. Is there anything you’ve been meaning to learn, that you can learn, but haven’t? (or maybe you have?)
I pretty much dive into anything I am interested in, though I still haven’t tried the “Voodoo For Fun And Profit” yet.

6. On the other side of the coin, there is photography. As much as I’d like to, I will never be as great at it as others. And I am OK with that, still I wish I had the gifts that others have. What skills or talents have you wished that you possessed that you most likely never will? Are you content with that?
Other than wanting to be the world’s greatest lover of women, I am pretty much satisfied with my talents and skills and my ability to pick up new ones.

7. “AudioBlogs” are a twist on text blogs, where the blogger posts audio files instead of writing their entries. Not far behind the curve are VideoBlogs. While I’ve tinkered with Audio posts before, I think it excludes too many people and personally, I feel the written word has a deeper impact. What do you think of the concept of “AudioBlogs?” Would you like to hear the voice of your favorite bloggers occasionally? Would you rather listen to or read your favorite Blogs?
I think AudioBlogs are just a nice little trinket that can wear out fast. Though I would like from time to time to hear the voice of the bloggers whose blogs I read, I wouldn’t want it to be a permanent feature. Same with VideoBlogs. Though more emotion and meaning can be sent using audio and visual, the two methods are just too much of a pain to be a replacement for text.

BONUS: How deep is your love?
Deeper than the Bee Gee’s voices at least.

Do your mission and see what others have posted.

Friday Five Alive

Posted by: Yoggie    in Friday Five

1. What is your most prized material possession?
My computer, I wouldn’t be able to work or exist without it.

2. What item, that you currently own, have you had the longest?
My collection of LP’s, you know those things made out of plastic that has groves that make music.

3. Are you a packrat?
Used to be, but the Brotherhood of the Packrats kicked me out once I started to recycle everything.

4. Do you prefer a spic-and-span clean house? Or is some clutter necessary to avoid the appearance of a museum?
If you ever went to my house you would know I’m not the most clean of people. I do try to keep it neat.

5. Do the rooms in your house have a theme? Or is it a mixture of knick-knacks here and there?
To have a theme you need stuff that relate to each other. Not one thing in my house matches, except the sofas and chairs.

Five the Friday, bay-bee, and see what others have said too.

Cheesy Money

   Posted by: Yoggie    in Uncategorized

Have you ever noticed that in our computer age we have become more impatient. I can remember the days when you could only file your tax return through the mail and it took two months or so to get your return. Now that we have electronic filing, the turn-around for your return is like two or three weeks. Yet I am more impatient for my tax refund now than I was years ago. Could it be I am less patient that I used to be, or is it that I am much older now and can feel the IRS leaching away my remaining years with each breath?

I want my money now! Gimme, gimme, gimme! Bacon, bacon BACON!

Durn Lovin’ Lawyers

Posted by: Yoggie    in Friends, Music and Music Reviews, News

Ever get one of those songs stuck in your head? I’ve had Jackson Brown‘s “Lawyers in Love” running through my head for the last three days. I was hoping to get you at least a sound bit of the song so you could share in my misery (I like the song, but not 72 hours straight).

Gretchen is back with a post concerning Zander, a person presently going through a rough time and who could use your thoughts right now.

Now to brighten up your day….. listen to “Lights Out” by Lisa Marie Presley from her new debut album ‘To Whom It May Concern’. She not only has her father’s facial profile, but his singing ability as well.

Yogi-ism

   Posted by: Yoggie    in Errata

Little did I know that Yogi-ism is an actual word. On a whim, I decided to do a search on the word Yogi-ism and found over 200 references. When Phil Garner told Yogi that he had just used a Yogi-ism, Yogi’s reply was “What’s a Yogi-ism?” therefore proving that Yogi-ism is cyclic and stuck in an infinite loop. At least Yogi is now using his ability with words to his advantage.

Gretchen Pirillo is still in a bit of a Blog Pause. Her husband Chris has been absent lately in his Lockergnome Windows Daily reports and he is a bit sparingly in the blogging department as well. It can mean only one thing… Chris is pregnant! I guess Chris now knows of the evils of the devil drink, coffee, and of messing with monkey DNA.

Monday Mission 3.07

Posted by: Yoggie    in Monday Mission

1. For me, breakfast usually consists of a bagel and cream cheese. And I wait until about 10AM to eat it, mostly to avoid eating a mid-morning snack. What do you like to eat for breakfast? Do you even eat breakfast?
What I like and what I get are two different things. I like bacon, toast, eggs, and grits. What I get is either a bagel, english muffin, or oatmeal. At least I’ll live longer eating this way.

2. Back in 1990, I worked at a radio station in the Promotions Department. Our office was directly below the DJ booth. One day there was this thundering bass booming from upstairs. It was just a huge booming sound, with an amazing beat. My manager and I bolted out of the office and up the stairs to the production room. When we opened the door I was smacked in the body by a wall of sound. What I heard reminded me of “Super Freak” but the bass was thumping like I’d never heard before. Then the vocals began, it was a “rap” I would never forget: “My, my, my music hits me so hard, makes me say ‘Oh, My Lord, thank you for blessin’ me, with a mind to rhyme and two hyped feet.’” The song was MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This” and it blew my mind. What was the song that “blew your mind” and is etched in your brain forever? Recall the moment and why it remains in your mind.
“The Saga Begins” By “Weird Al” Yankovick, I proved to me that no cultural icon and no classic song was too sacred for parody. I don’t quite remember what I was doing at the time.

3. Do you like to gamble? Have you ever won (or lost) big?
Somewhat. I like to paly Poker and Black Jack. I usually end up with what I come in with so I never have any big losses or payoffs..

4. Some people find comfort for their troubled mind in food. Others find it in music or books. What do you turn to for comfort when you are troubled or worried?
Gerbil hunting. Well, someone’s gotta keep the population in check. Okay, usually I’m a comfort food person or a music person, if it gets that far.. I try to avoid or rectify any situation that might bring about the need for comfort instead of having to need comforting.

5. When was the last time you felt apathetic? What was it about?
I’m not the type of person who gets excited and in turn I tend not to get too apathetic either. I kinda take everything in the middle of the road.

6. I just read that Google bought Pyra Labs (Blogger.com). Although Blogging was going “mainstream” before this, it most certainly will now have greater exposure, and one assumes, bring us even more Bloggers. Is this a good thing?
No! It can’t be! Now I will have fewer visitors. In truth, I think you just found something I can be apathetic about. It may bring a few more bloggers (I think we are about to reach the limit of those who want to blog) but it will also bring more blog readers. Not to mention more trolls, stalkers, men in red hats,….

7. What did you do with all your free time before you blogged?*
Create web sites and play Solitaire.

BONUS: Should I stay or should I go now?
If you don’t stop singing that Clash song I drop kick you into the next planetary system!

Another Yogi-ism

   Posted by: Yoggie    in Errata

From the ever wise Yogi Berra… “Steve McQueen looks good in this movie. He must have made it before he died” .

Well the Monday Mission has not been sent out yet, but I’ll have my answers as soon as PromoGuy post the questions.

Happy President’s Day!

“Did some one forget to put sour cream in their pants today?” – Book of Not Very Well Known Witticisms.

For those of you who have asked, yes I lost a few of my marbles. It happened one of those times when I got hit in the head with a bat during my tenure as a baseball catcher.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have linked to this blog, you people know who you are. And for those of you who haven’t linked to me….. that’s okay. I’m not in the business of trading links. The links on the blogroll on the left are the ones I visit regularly, not those whom I have traded links. If you want to trade links, you can gently twist my arm and email me
.
Now go visit Kim and wish her good luck on her driving test.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

   Posted by: Yoggie    in Uncategorized

Here’s wishing you and yours a Happy Valentine’s Day.

Now for the Friday Five…

1. Explain why you started to journal/blog.
This may sound shallow, but it was because everyone else seemed to be doing it, it looked like fun, and I wanted to vent and go loony on occasion. Also someone suggested I do it. Actually it was originally supposed to be part of a larger site, but things just didn’t jell at the right time.

2. Do people you interact with day to day or family members know about your journal/blog? Why or why not?
Don’t know. I told my wife, but she is not into blogs.

3. Do you have a theme for your journal/blog?
Yes, it will be the most lackluster and uninspired blog on the Web.

4. What direction would you like to have your journal/blog go in over the next year?
More interaction, better design, more features, more visitors.

5. Pimp five of your favorite journals/blogs.
Just five! There is, of course, Gretchen Pirillo’s Inside Gretchen’s Head, Kim49er’s blog, Wil Wheaton’s blog, Chris Pirillo’s blog, and the ever popular Moxie. There are so many others I could pimp.

Fake your own Five and see what everyone else has to say..
