Not ready to tell

Posted by: Yoggie    in Friends, Personal, Relationships

I had this entry I was going to post about the latest post at Just One Bite which is about pain. I was going to write about my feelings and observations regrading Eden’s (not her real name, but a nickname… just go with it okay) post, the “white knight” syndrome, and how similar backgrounds create such dissimilar personalities and defense mechanisms, but looking back on my past and drudging the old pain and memories was just a little too much to deal with at this moment. I thought I had delt with the abuse sufficiently to talk about it, but I guess I was wrong, I was still hiding too much from myself.

Maybe one day soon I can complete that post and let you read it and fulfill my promise to myself and Eden. My apologies to Eden.

No more Gloria

Posted by: Yoggie    in News, Personal

I just read some sad news today.

Laura Branigan, singer of such hits as “Gloria”, “How Am I Supposed To Live Without You”, “Self Control”, and “Power Of Love”, died last Thursday of a brain aneurysm. She was 47.

She was a very beautiful and talented singer whose strong voice and songwriting skills produced staples in the pop music world and allowed her to venture into the realm of acting, going as far as playing Janis Joplin in the critically acclaimed musical Love, Janis.

“I want to touch people’s hearts, to get right down to their souls.” – Laura Branigan, 1983

I already miss her.

Saturday night, Sunday morning… who cares

Posted by: Yoggie    in Errata, Pictures

Yes, I’m up, which means I am not sleeping. You tell me why I am not sleeping. Could it be that I took a nap this afternoon? I don’t think it has anything to do with what is on TV tonight though seeing Sheryl Lee in John Carpenter’s Vampires is worth staying up for.

Grrrooowwwwlllll!

Of course the incessant commercials about Viagra, Finess Made Simple, and Serta mattresses are taking a toll on my ability to stay awake and see more of Sheryl.

Yawn

Fight sleep.

Yeah, where were you two hours ago when the Falcons game when off (they won 37 to 10 over the Bengals).

I don’t even think Adriana Sage will kep me awake now.

Presidential Friday Five

Posted by: Yoggie    in Friday Five

Ask not what your country can do for you, as what you can do for the Friday Five.

1. It the election were tomorrow, who would you vote for?
Kerry, not because I necessarily like him, I just really don’t like Bush and the mess his administration has made.

2. What are the main things that lead you to vote for a certain person?
Ideals, record, stance on education, on the ecology, on welfare, and on world peace.

3. Where do you get your info on the candidates?
From various sources such as newspaper, campaign info, internet, public records, other people’s experiences with the candidate, etc. I don’t just use one source of information.

4. Who was president when you were born?
John F. Kennedy. He died almost seven months after I was born.

5. If you could choose anyone, dead or alive, to be president, who would it be?
If it were a President with past experience, I would opt for JFK. He was willing to listen and compromise, be tough when needed, and the nation was respected and liked during his administration.

Cruisin’ through the news…

   Posted by: Yoggie    in News

Warning: rant ahead!

Now this is interesting. The Bush camp considers this man, George Soros, as evil, going as far to calling him “unethical” and some other not so nice terms. The Bush people went as far to say that he “purchased the Democratic Party“. Bush, I wouldn’t be calling people names or throwing accusations given what your campaign people have done in the past and in the present. But going after a philanthropist who has spend billions of his personal wealth (that he gain in a unique, novel way) in spreading democracy and peace is not a good idea, even if Soros did vow to get you out of office with his sizable and legal contributions (don’t play coy Bush, your campaign is going it as well to the tune of $110 million so far).

Personally I think people and groups like Soros and SwiftVets should just get out of the political arena altogether. Let the two candidates stand on their policies. And for campaign finance, each candidate should be given a equal sum of money by the government and equal amount of air time, that is all you get… period. No fund raising, no dinners. Maybe if we had that system then people who aren’t monstrously wealthy can have an equal shot at being president.

Warning: another rant ahead!

And while I’m on SwiftVets… what the hell are these people smoking? Kerry lied about what was happening in Vietnam and he demoralized you? I seem to remember many a reporter commenting on the atrocities committed by American soldiers during the war and not being allowed to report it at the time. All the reports of what would realistically be called war crimes came out after the war was over, where was the men of SwftVets?

And I just love how they are selective in their quotes when they “prove” Kerry is lying about his record. If I used that type of “evidence” on a term paper I would have never made it out of high school.

Of course now all those SwiftVets are going to gang up on me and try to remove my site because I linked to them and criticized them. The link here is for those who want to look into the matter themselves, boys, so that they can make an informed decision.

Warning: No, not another rant ahead!

And what the hell is the deal with torturing the Iraqi prisoners?! I thought we were a civilized nation with a compassionate military and then some lug-headed a-holes mistreat prisoners. Those involved has made the case against the U.S. even stronger with their asinine, sub-human actions that are an abomination to God and nature. I can’t even fathom what mental processes can lead a person to do such horrendous things.

Damn am I pissed-off right now!

Obsessing over a book from my youth

Posted by: Yoggie    in Books and Book reviews

This entry by Tracy had me wondering about a book from my youth that I have been search for the last few years called (I think) Dangerous Planet. This book was about a space exploration team landing on a planet that had some very dangerous indigenous life, particularly the foliage. This site about a class project sounds remarkable like the planet described in the book. The book had to have been first published before 1978. I think the book was written by a famous writer, maybe in the sci-fi or science genres.

If anyone has any idea about who wrote this book and, if I have the wrong title, what is the title.

Slow Dancing

Posted by: Yoggie    in Music and Music Reviews

This song takes me back, back to the times that are romantic, time before kids, time before responsibilities. I go back to the time of the three room, cramped apartment with no heat, where my soon-to-be wife and I would snuggle under the blankets and watch TV. It would seem that the world was so far away, that it was just the two of us.

And when the mood would strike, we would turn on the radio and do some….

Slow Dancing (Swaying to the Music)
by Johnny Rivers

It’s late at night and we’re all alone
With just the music on the radio
No one’s coming, no one’s gonna telephone
Just me and you and the lights down low
And we’re

Slow dancing, swaying to the music
Slow dancing, just me and my girl
Slow dancing, swaying to the music
No one else in the whole wide world
Just you, girl

And we just flow together when the lights are low
And shadows dancing across the wall
The music’s playing so soft and slow
And the rest of the world so far away and small
And we’re

Slow dancing, swaying to the music
Slow dancing, just me and my girl
Slow dancing, swaying to the music
No one else in the whole wide world
Just you, girl

Hold me, hold me
Don’t ever let me go

As we dance together in the dark
There’s so much love in this heart of mine
You whisper to me and I hold you tight
You’re the one I thought I’d never find

Slow dancing, swaying to the music
Slow dancing, just me and my girl
Slow dancing, swaying to the music
No one else in the whole wide world
Just you, girl.

This is dedicated to my wife.

Alien Invasion Friday Five

Posted by: Yoggie    in Friday Five

Friday Five? But it is Monday!

1. If you were an alien visiting Earth where would you come from?
And you assume I would come here of my own free will? Ha, puny earthling. If I were to come from any specific star system, I’d have to pick Vega, then when I started eating people I would get this shocking look as people say “I thought you were Vegan!”

2. How would you get here and how long would it take?
I’d use one of those wormhole thingies being as they are instantaneous which means I could sleep in my own bed at night.

3. What would you do or say when you got here?
“I am here to chew gum and kick ass… and I’m all out of gum.” Five minutes later I would be a pile of ash.

4. What would be your best judgment about Earth and what would be your worst judgment about Earth?
Best judgement? Earth has Swedish meatballs. Worse judgment? Earth has gnats, time to wipe out all life on the planet.

5. What would you look like?
It wouldn’t be one eye, one horn, flying purple thing. Maybe a big red blob… oops, that’s been done. Howabout a giant wearing a diaper, it would keep the locals off guard.

If you like the Friday Five, or really despise the questions, there is a contest going on for submission of questions. You can win $10 livejournal coupon… whatever. You can submit questions here.

And goldrose is making me hot with those green fingernails.

Mirror, mirror

   Posted by: Yoggie    in Uncategorized

I was about to take a shower last night when I happen to glance at the mirror over the sink (I’m not too vain, I usually ignore the mirror unless I am shaving). Something did not look right. So I looked full-length mirror on the door (we had to put it somewhere) and something still didn’t look right, so I turned sideways. ARGH! My tummy! What happened? It is SMALLER!

While this might be distressing to a pregnant woman, I was slightly amused. I have not been trying to lose weight. Now I know why I have to pull my belt tighter and that I can’t seem to eat a meal without having left-overs.

Unfortunately, I think I’m getting shorter as well.

Technical problems with comments

Posted by: Yoggie    in Site News

If you have been getting the following message when trying to post a comment….

Spammers are the nasty pond sucking scum and Your comment is the algae because of words like http get a life!

Please correct the error in the form below, then press Post to post your comment.

… it is not of my doing. I share MT with another blogger who has been gracious enough to host my site. This person has put into place a new anti-spam system in the comments to combat the continual comment spamming that is all the rage these days. I am working on a different system of commenting and other solutions that I will be implementing in the next few months.

The best option is to leave the URL blank at present.

Or you could just email me.

I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.
