1. What is your opinion on karma?
According to strict Karmic law (for every event that occurs, there will follow another event whose existence was caused by the first, and this second event will be pleasant or unpleasant according as its cause was skillful or unskillful), the idea is that the universe is ultimately seeking harmonic balance addressing the wrongs and rewarding the rights. I believe that there is a stabilizing force inherent in the universe and that all deeds, good or bad, will come back to you and I try to use positive “forces” (such as meditation, prayer, good works) to help others out. Yeah, it sounds new age-y but I’ve tried to practice this since childhood.
2. If anything, do you think attitude makes any difference? If you believe the world and life are good, will good things radiate toward you? If you believe otherwise, will it all be a self fulfilling prophecy?
The mind is a powerful force in the universe. It can set things in motion with just a thought or a dream. I think that if you think positive you will generally will have good things happen to you, not always, and there will be some really deep pits, but in the long run you will be in a more positive situation. And most certainly if you think bad things are going to happen that they will. You will be more apt to notice the bad things with that type of attitude than you would with a positive one. The easiest thing to do is to fulfill a self prophecy.
But don’t think I’m all rose and cheer. I have my bad and depressed days as well.
3. How has luck/chance/facts-of-life/God/karma/nature treated you so far?
The tidal forces of the universe has been on the good side so far in my life. I don’t have the best of health, I’m not monetarily rich, and I not handsome, but I am reasonably happy and content… I just have to work at it.
4. What is your opinion of the concept of destinies?
I believe everyone has a set of possible destinies, not just one. Each decision we make leads us to a specific destination, but that destination can change in an instant. We control our futures to a point outside the influences of the universe around us. I’m not talking mystical influences, more like other people’s decisions, the gravitation pull of the universe, that big rock hurling itself to my office… agh!
5. Are both bad and good things needed in order to truly live life? Can you have the bad without the good? The good without the bad?
More like the ying-yang. There can be no good without bad and bad cannot exist without good. Both are a necessary part of nature, but it is up to us to reduce the influence of the bad things and minimize the effects.
Involve yourself in the circle of life and do the Friday Five.
