Gimme 5 for July 27, 2005

Posted by: Yoggie    in Gimme 5

1. What do you wish for your country?
Peace, end to poverty, equal rights to all, and the end to this stupid war we are in.

2. What do you like at your country?
It is diverse. There is always something new to be discovered in the people around you.

3. And don´t you like?
The closed-minded, bigoted people that seem to thing they are the true Americans and want to force there ideas and religion down everyone elses throats.

4. What would you change?
First get that idiot president out of office, then I would try to mend the divisions created by him and his administration.

5. What would you tell to a tourist what he has to look at?
We have a pretty country that you can find any type of sites you are looking. The people here are generally not like you’ve heard on the news, we are nice, caring people that welcome diversity and differing opinions.

Creative Friday Five

Posted by: Yoggie    in Friday Five

What are your creative dreams?
To write the Great American Horror Novel… and write some pretty cool web applications.

What do you do to make them real?
With the writing, I write as much as I can, I write down all my ideas and dreams no matter how corny they are, and I keep this blog. In programming, I am learning as many languages as I can and trying to come up with ways to use them that have not been considered before. I have one application I am designing that uses JavaServerPages.

What would you do if time and money were no object?
I would devote more time to my two projects.

Who are the supportive people in your life?
My family. They have been understanding so far.

What makes you unique?
My background. In my writing I like to draw on the place I used to live, which was at one time far from any large group of people.

Sad day in the galaxy

   Posted by: Yoggie    in News

James Montgomery Doohan
March 3, 1920 – July 20, 2005

I don’t have much to say as it took me this long just to get this up without tears welling up in my eyes. A great man, a great actor, a war hero, and a nice person. Scotty is my favorite of all of the Star Trek characters and the stars seem a little dimmer now that his is no longer with us.

The world is lessen considerably by his passing.

The Great Bird of the Galaxy weeps.

Gimme 5 for July 20, 2005

Posted by: Yoggie    in Gimme 5

1. In which countries have you been for holidays?
I unfortunately have never been outside of the United States. I have plans of someday visiting a few selected countries on my ancestors, but as it looks that plan is way down the road.

2. Do you buy souvenirs for you and your friends/relatives?
Yes, lots. I tend to spend more on trinkets and what-nots for friends and relatives than I do for myself.

3. Are you writing picture postcards?
Sometimes I send picture postcards. I don’t usually get a lot of time to do anything that is not on my itinerary when I’m on holiday.

4. Which is your favourite person you spend your holidays with?
I usually spend them with my wife and kids. Lately because of work schedules I’ve had to miss the holiday excursions my family took.

5. Would you do a backpack trip through russia?
Maybe, but I would be the only one in my household to go. Everyone else is so used to the modern utilities that they hate camping and backpacking.

Friends Friday Five

Posted by: Yoggie    in Friday Five

Who was your first best friend?
I was a solitary lad for most of my life. I usually had close friends as opposed the best friends until I went to college, then I met Mary.

Who have been some of the most influential people in your life?
My Industrial Arts teacher, my mother, my math teachers, that really hot art teacher… about all of my influential people have been teachers – maybe that was why I wanted to be a teacher.

Do you usually have one best friend or a lot of close friends?
I’ve reverted back to my old ways and I have a lot of close friends, but no best friends. I guess I just don’t have anyone I can be that close without being married to that person. Yeah, I know your best friend should be your spouse, but there are things you do with best friends, things you tell them that you would never tell a spouse.

Do you believe people of the opposite sex can be best friends and not lovers?
Yes, I’ve been best friends with someone of the opposite sex without being lovers. Best friends are a different type of people, you don’t see them in the same way you see other people.

Have you ever fallen in love with a friend?
Yes, in fact I fell in love with Mary deeply. That is one reason we drifted apart, it just didn’t work out for either of us though the feelings were mutual.

Be friendly, join the Friday Five.

Gimme 5 Summer Fun

Posted by: Yoggie    in Gimme 5

1. How do you spend a hot summer-day?
Usually inside with the central air blasting cool breezes and working around the house, that is when I’m not at work. I have no vacation, I have no life.

2. Do you like swimming in a pool?
As opposed to a vat of hot oil, yes. We have one of those small collapsible pools in the back that is good relaxing in when the kids are not in it. We are going to have to buy a much larger one next year, which probably means I will need to build a deck for the pool.

3. What type of person are you – pale-faced or sun-burnt?
I’m one of those people who does not sunburn very often. I will get darker as I spend more time outside, but you can’t really tell because the sun bleaches out the hair on my arms and legs making me appear lighter. My skin is naturally tan looking due to my Native American ancestory.

4. Which sun protection factor are you using, and why?
I know I should wear sunscreen all the time I am outside, but I usually don’t unless I will be out for long periods of time then I will use 30 to 60 SPF.

5. Which type of summer-sports do you like the most?
Baseball. I am a baseball fanatic. Okay, not really fanatic, but I like to keep up with the Braves and try to catch local baseball and softball games whenever possible.
