Animalistic Gimme 5

Posted by: Yoggie    in Gimme 5

1. What is the most curious animal that crosses your mind? Why?
Cats. Yes, I know cats are pretty common place, especially at my house, but they are the enigmatic of all the animals. You never know what they are thinking.

2. Do you know an animal, which becomes extinct?
I personally don’t know any animals that went extinct, but I do know that they do so at an alarming rate.

3. What do you think of the seal slaughter in Norway?
I don’t see how anyone can kill young seals in the first place. I understand it is an attempt to control the population, but why not limit the hunting to adult male seals as in deer? Would make a lot more sense in population control. The reason that young seals are killed is that the pelt of the younger is more valuable than that of adults.

4. Where´s the ending of your love of animals?
Till the try to kill/eat me. I leave you alone/you leave me alone has worked so far, but an animal that threatens me or my family and friends will not survive long.

5. Which animals/pets did you have as a child?
Lots of cats, a few dogs, and a couple of shared rabbits.

Foody Friday Five

Posted by: Yoggie    in Friday Five

It was late this week, but not as late as I am…..

1. What foods did you eat growing up that you later found out were regional items? (specific brands or recipes that you thought everyone could buy or make)
Hamburger macaroni and cheese. My mother used to make this long before there was ever Hamburger Helper and I was surprised that very few people outside of The South had heard of it before it was boxed.

2. Ham or turkey at Christmas and Easter? Or was there some other main course not typical for your area or religion?
I like turkey were as everyone else in the house wants ham on Christmas. Sometimes we have both on that holiday. On Easter, it is strictly ham. Trouble is I don’t digest ham very well.

3. What was your favorite meal served at your elementary school?
I took my lunch to school for as long as I can remember. My school’s lunch sucked big time.

4. What family recipes have been handed down to you, and have you tweaked any of them a little bit to make them more yours?
Homemade chocolate cake with homemade chocolate candy icing and home style chili. I haven’t changed the cake recipe, but I do now make the chili with no beans and with more spices.

5. Are there foods/recipes you wouldn’t eat as a child that you now regularly enjoy?
Asparagus. I used to think they were the pits of inedibility along with mustard greens. Now I eat both with glee. I guess my taste buds matured, I just wish I could say the same about my kids.
