Words of wisdom from down the road

   Posted by: Yoggie    in Funnies

Remember that old guy down the road? No, not the one with the smelly feet and the banjo. I’m talking about the old guy who was the wellspring of advice that also kept yelling at you to get off his lawn. Here are some of the sage words you remember from childhood…

A bird in the hand is… dinner.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave… when we put line in a weedwacker.

If at first you don’t succeed… you’re an idiot so quit.

Early to bed, early to rise… that was before television.

An apple a day… is only good if you have teeth.

A true friend is… a guy that will loan you twenty bucks when you only ask for ten.

The worst wheel of the cart… is the one you just got fixed.

The three hardest things in the world are steel, diamonds, and… a kids thick skull.

The things that hurt,… suck.

Love your enemies,… then get them when they least expect it.

He that lives carnally,… had one hell of a good time.

He that lies down with dogs,… had a hell of a bender last night.

He that has not got a wife,…. is a hell of a lot smarter than I am.

When the well’s dry,… go pay the water bill.

A Spoonful of Honey will catch more Flies than… those damn pest strips.

A fool and his money… multiply with no end.

A sucker is born… everytime he says “I do”.

Visits should be short,… so get off my lawn, you punk kid!

Disrespect or freedom?

Posted by: Yoggie    in Blurred Opinion

I was reading an article this morning from the online version of USAToday concerning a woman of Asian origin who interrupted the welcome speech of Presidents Bush and Hu. Now the pretestor and the outburst was nothing new or notable, but the comments were interesting. Of course, some people praised and applauded her exercising free speech while others damned her for being rude and disrespectful. I’m not going to go into the security loopholes that let her get as close as she did (they seem to work in those so called “town meetings” Bush held), rather into a discussion of rights versus respect in this particular situation.

First of all, the woman had the right to be heard. We pride ourselves on our freedom of speech (though we seem to allow the government to limited it willy-nilly) and we usually applaud anyone who practices it. Though I believe there is a time and a place for everything, I don’t see what is so disrespectful of the woman expressing her opinion at that time. So we had two heads of state there, one of which runs a suppressive regime (and another who seems to want to create one… no, I do not like Bush), is that being disrespectful. I can remember numerous occasions when American Presidents went overseas and were interrupted by protestors and such – no one ever said that was disrespectful and wrong. Yes, we have to weigh the consequences with the message, but sometimes the message must come out.

Now what is so bad about this is that the woman is protesting against the ban on Falun Gong, a religious cult with an unsavory history at best. But then China bans other religions as well, Christian, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, etc. I guess the nay sayers in the comments to the article would have been more kind if she had been protesting about how Christians are treated in China.

Which bears to ask the question, how can such a “devout Christian” president work with President Hu?

Feelin’ tired

Gimme 5 for April 12, 2006

Posted by: Yoggie    in Gimme 5

1. g5 “devilishes” you since almost 2 years. Since when are you answering the questions?
I’ve been with the G5 since May of last year.

2. It is not easy to think of new questions – they have to be suitable and not too personal. Is it okay for you if the questions would be a little bit more personal (e.g. the questions on 1st of March, 2006)?
Sure, if I think the question is too personal I just will not answer it, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t as it.

3. About what would you never liked to be asked?
My name and the size of my, uhm, personals.

4. Questions I would be asked about for long time!
Like, why do you do this blog thing.

5. Suggestions or criticism for the g5 team?
Don’t be afraid to as personal questions.

Gimme 5 for April 5, 2006

Posted by: Yoggie    in Gimme 5

1. Have you ever made a diet?
I’ve been on a few but never came up with any new diets.

2. Do you know some unusual diets?
The Clay Diet – you eat a large spoonful of Georgia red clay with your meal to keep you from eating too much and to keep you regular. Don’t worry, there are no harmful effects from eating red clay, but the high iron content makes the clay bitter.

3. What do you think about the slimming craze of celebrities?
Whatever floats their cork.

4. You are writing a Letter to the Editor of a magazine – what would you write about diets?
Proceed with caution. Not everyone can diet or should. Each diet has risks.

5. What keeps you off from making a diet?
Every time I diet my blood pressure goes up so I have to watch how much weight I lose in relation to my blood pressure. I know, it should be the other way around but….

I know, I know

Posted by: Yoggie    in Wistful Meanderings

So I’ve been a little slack lately posting… sue me. Well, don’t sue me, please. I’ve been very busy lately and haven’t had much personal computer time. I’ll be back into the groove soon.

That is if the people inside my head quit screaming for ice cream.
