Friday Five for February 8, 2008

Posted by: Yoggie    in Friday Five

1. Do you consider yourself to be a good housekeeper? Why or why not?
No, I let too much get by and I let the kids get away with too much as well.

2. Are there any household chores that you enjoy doing? If so, what and why?
Not really.

3. Which household chore frustrates/angers you the most?
Sweeping. I never see to get all the dirt up and it hurts my back.

4. When doing household chores, what do you do to make them seem less of a “chore”?
Listen to music.

5. Which chore do you find yourself doing most often, and why?
Cleaning cat litter, we have three cats.

Happy Chinese New Year

Posted by: Yoggie    in Important Events

Happy Chinese New Year to everyone.

rat_year 2008

I’m guessing from the media blitz that this is the year of the Earth Rat or SHU.  So people born this year are supposed to be characterized as smart, likable, take charge, protective, and a bit on the selfish side with the Earth sign make this person more grounded and stabilized.

Brown Rat

So have a good year everyone!

Pats, Giants, 17-14. What a crap fest! You know a football game is going to suck when one team has the ball for almost 10 minutes and scores only 3 points. Item two of suckage: The scoring happens in the first quarter (okay, 3 seconds into the second quarter) and the fourth quarter. It looked more like a game played during pre-season.

The commercials… maybe two or three were good, but the rest pretty much were a pain to watch. I liked the Bridgestone tire commercial with Alice Cooper and Richard Simmons (swerving at the last possible moment to miss Richard out of a guilty conscience), the Coke Macy Christmas parade balloons, and the FedEx pigeons ( for originality). An no, I don’t consider the kick-arse Iron Man trailer a commercial in the same sense.

Now Tom Petty was pretty good in a mini-concert way. I mean, how can you mess up with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers? Maybe it should have been the other way around – Tom Petty in concert with a 15 minute Super Bowl game.

Did anyone else seem to have problems with the viewing screen during the broadcast? I noticed that the announcers were too "red" in the face and the graphics in the commercials were cut-off on the left side. I have a HD/digital TV in the room we were viewing the game and switching from widescreen, to movie, to sidebar, and to full screen did not help with the cut-off graphics. I checked the TV with the other channels and none of them had the color or cut-off problems.

Maybe I should have read the what today’s Friday Five was about, thought it through, and scuttled the whole idea before diving headlong into responding to it.  We all have some old wounds that just don’t seem to want to heal. Starting Friday Five for February 1, 2008 did seem like a big task at first, then I went further along and all those old feelings just came flooding back.  Missed opportunities, lost dreams, what-if’s… not that I would trade my family for an alternate reality… I am lucky and grateful to have them in my life.

It is not "I wonder what if would have been like", rather more it f*****g hurts just to remember and it make the rest of you day s**t!

To the one and half people reading this, don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine.

How is the weather?

Posted by: Yoggie    in Music and Music Reviews, Wistful Meanderings

Sometimes you just don’t realize the hidden meanings lodged in songs… kinda like the bludgeoning of reality that I got this afternoon concerning the song "Happy Together" sung by The Turtles.  Yes, I knew the lyrics, no problem there.  It is the meaning of one particular line that I sorta just ignored as part of the song and a real cool use of rhythm and rhyme. Let’s start out with the lyrics…

Imagine me and you, I do
I think about you day and night, it’s only right
To think about the girl you love and hold her tight
So happy together

If I should call you up, invest a dime
And you say you belong to me and ease my mind
Imagine how the world could be, so very fine
So happy together

I can’t see me lovin’ nobody but you
For all my life
When you’re with me, baby the skies’ll be blue
For all my life

Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it has to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together

I can’t see me lovin’ nobody but you
For all my life
When you’re with me, baby the skies’ll be blue
For all my life

Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it has to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together

Ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba
Ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba

Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it has to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together

So happy together
How is the weather
So happy together
We’re happy together
So happy together
Happy together
So happy together
So happy together (ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba)

The verses that brought about the landslide of understanding are "When you’re with me, baby the skies’ll be blue" and "How is the weather".  What?! You mean the songs isn’t about how happy the couple are together?  No, it is the guy telling this girl that how much he loves her and that they would make a great couple… and then he asks her if she feels the same (How is the weather").

Just image what the two responses would be… Oh Johnny, the weather is blue skies with birds singing… or, it is black as night in the middle of a blizzard with tornados on the way.
