Oh no, he’s been watching Alien again

The classic horror/sci fi movie Alien was on tonight and it got me thinking (always a bad sign).  Now I’ve seen the movie quite a few times and even read the novelisation at least once and a few things just came to me about the movie’s plot.

Spoiler Warning!  If you haven’t seen the movie and still want to… what is taking you so long!

  • We know that “The Company” (later movies revealed was Weyland-Yutani Corporation) sent the Nostromo to LV-426 specifically to retrieve an Alien (though the crew was unaware of this until near the end of the movie) and the android Ash was put on the ship to assure that the cargo was delivered. Now, if you were the person rounding up the crew for the voyage, wouldn’t you be careful of how you picked?  The last person I would have picked would have been a strong person like Ripley. I mean she manage to figure out that the transmission was warning.
  • Was Ripley put on that ship by some fifth column in the company that knew the risks of the alien, not that Ripley would have known?
  • Wouldn’t it had been better to send a trained team covertly to retrieve the xenomorph? Smuggling the alien would have been simple for a company like W-Y with all the connections it has.
  • Concerning the giant spaceship, it was assumed that the alien queen has infested the ship without the alien crew knowing.  Could the giant aliens have actually been transporting the alien queen to a planet for Predators to hunt (it has been established that both Aliens and Predators are in the same fictional universe)?
  • It has been suggested in the comics that the Predators have been actively exterminating the Alien species, is that why no one could find any more nest outside LV-426 as mentioned in Aliens and Alien: Resurrection?

Yes, I geek too much about movies.
