Friday Five for March 27, 2009

Posted by: Yoggie    in Friday Five, Memes

1. Would you return to high school life for a week? Why or why not? (If you’re currently in high school, would you redo your experiences so far?)
Hell no! I had enough of high school while I was there, but I would like to spend some time with some of my teachers from back in the day.

2. Who were/are you in high school?
The loner, Goth Geek. (Goth was not a sub-culture back then.)

3. What was/is your favorite high school hangout? What did/do you do there?
Hang out? Who had time to hang out? I worked after school.

4. What were/are your favorite three songs in high school?
Dazz, Le Freak, and More Than A Feeling.

5. What was the craziest thing you did in high school?
I used to get into stupid fights over a girl’s honor with the biggest guys there were.

Laundry, do thyself!

Posted by: Yoggie    in Wistful Meanderings

While my wife is laid up in a cast, I have been doing all of the housework (along with all of the yard work and all other chores I had before) which included the LAUNDRY! I not a slob at washing clothes, in fact you could call me a real pro.  Yet, all it takes is just one event or set back to put the whole “get the wash done so everyone has clothes to wear” out of whack.  No, my family have plenty of clothes, at least the kids and my wife do though if I don’t wash I have nothing to wear outside of the house, it is just that they manage to get every-freakin’-thing dirty every-freakin’-week.  I usually go through a pair of pants, shirt, underwear, and jammies everyday like normal people.  My family somehow manages to triple or quadruple that everyday.  I am at a loss on just how they wear that much every day.

This week I had a double whammy of stuff come up and I haven’t finished the wash yet.

And next weekend looks like more of the same.

Anyone want to volunteer?

Here’s how to maintain a healthy level of Insanity

   Posted by: Yoggie    in Humor

This is from a Charlie Tennant II from ChantaleCenterfold Yahoo! Group (an adult group)….

Here you go:
1. Sit in your parked car with sunglasses on and point your blow dryer at passing cars to see if they will slow down.
2. Page yourself over the intercom and don’t disguise your voice!
3. Everytime someone asks you to do something, ask if they want fries with that!
4. Put Decaf in the coffee maker for 3 weeks. Once everyone has gotten over their caffeine additions switch to Expresso!
5. In the memo field of all your checks write for Marijuana!
6. With a serious face, order diet water whenever you go out to eat!
7. Specify that your drive through order is “to go”!
8. When the money comes out of the ATM, scream “I won, I won”!
9. When leaving the zoo, start running towards the parking lot screaming “run for your lives, they’re loose”!
10. Tell your children over dinner, “due to the economy, we are going to have to let one of you go”!

Humph!

Posted by: Yoggie    in Wistful Meanderings

Today went better at least in the getting work and nothing bad happening.  Uhm, no, I am not including my assessment of server problems that are not in day four.  This morning we all decided that it was a disk failure about to happen so we are making plans to use a back-up server (i.e. a server that was decommissioned).  In my opinion this will not help one bit as I believe an evil troll is sabotaging the server we are having problems with and will sabotage the replacement as well.

Like I said, it has not stopped me from be a productive little minion but it has slowed us down and it is causing all kinds of delays as it pulls important resources away.

And it seriously cuts into my nap time.

Not really, I don’t have time for naps, but it is keeping me from getting this project out the door as we don’t dare do anything until the server problem is solved.

Day three in IT hell

Posted by: Yoggie    in Wistful Meanderings

I don’t normally talk about work, especially three days in a row, but crap!  We rolled back the updates, rebooted the server, rebooted the DNS, turned off the servers, and sacrificed KFC original recipe chicken and we still have the same problem.  We contacted the manufacturer of the hardware and the provider of the OS and both said to do what we have done.  Yeah, not kidding guys… we don’t have advanced degrees and about of 100 years of experience in the shop so no we would not have thought of doing what we did.

I swear the server has it out for me.

Posted by: Yoggie    in Wistful Meanderings

Honestly, when ten people of various specialties in Information Technology, computer hardware, and server configuration/administration cannot not figure out what is wrong then it has to be some supernatural force at work.  We still have not solved our problem and we are getting to the point of undoing everything to the point of the server as it was before the problems happened.  We think it was a bunch of software updates that were applied earlier that may have not been exactly ready for prime-time (we are a pilot for various computing resources).  So we are doing the rollback shuffle tonight.

Damn you gods of IT!

Posted by: Yoggie    in Wistful Meanderings

We have this problem at work that I will not elaborate on but has all of us dazed and confused.  Sometimes computers just do not do what they are supposed to do.  Yes, coming from a tech guy that is the ultimate in blasphemy so  guess I will be struck down by some stray set of bits or a flying chip.
