But it is Easter
Did you know that Lowe’s is open on Easter? I know Wal-Mart is but I did not suspect Lowe’s would be. I had to go back into town this morning (my mother-in-law was not answering her phone when my wife wanted to talk to her, her car is in the shop so she is stuck at home, it turned out she was out walking the dog and talking to the neighbors for two hours) and to make my trip worthwhile (she called back after I was almost at her house) I went to see if I could get some hardware to fix my closet shelves. I was going to Wal-Mart when my wife suggested that the hardware would more likely be in Lowe’s. Boy, did I get a surprise that they were open.
We had a good time at the Easter family gathering. I guess everyone else had a good time, I fell asleep right after eating. To my defense, I had been up early this morning after going to be late so I had almost no sleep. The wife and kids wake me up hours later to go home. Yes, hours. I get home and go right to fixing the shelves which to my astonishment took exactly as long as I told my wife it would. And here I was expecting it to actually take a whole day. I need to go back to the Scotty school of engineering.
New shoes too!
Saturday has become my day for getting the weekly groceries (Sunday is wash day). So I was off to get what I needed for the family get-together on Easter. You know stuff like bread, cake, chips, drinks, dip, etc. Exactly what is the host supplying I know not. While in town I decided to get me some new shoes as mine are losing their soles (I guess they lost out on a deal with the Devil). I haven’t changed shoe size in year and suddenly my shoe size is now up half a size. No wonder my feet have been hurting so much lately.
Did I tell you our closet shelving fell? I will be working on that sometime this next week as well. All of the clothes we had hanging in the closet are now on the floor. Grrrrrr!
So it is Good Friday. I have yet to see what is so good about it. Busy, busy, busy at work. Yard work, yard work, yard work, pool work at home. Did I tell you that part of our pool is sinking? We have one of those above-ground metal-tubing pools (we can’t have below ground pools because we are too close to the water table… I’m on top of a freakin’ hill!) and the footings on one side of pool disappeared some time ago and now the pool on that side is sinking into the soft ground (the metal tube are going deeper into the ground). I finally received the replacement parts for the pool, but I just don’t have time to drain the pool (the kids are already using it) to fix it.
And how did I get saddled with a $120 check for dinner tonight? And I had to tip the waitress too (though I did give her a generous 25% tip for all the trouble we caused her with the complicated order… and that she was cute as a button and touched me every time she came over… yeah, I am an easy target for big tips).
This week is trudging along. The days seem short but they just take forever to get here. I keep checking the calendar hoping that we can skip some day, but lo, that does not happen.
I really dread this weekend. I was told today we would be going to my sister-in-law’s house… yes, the hot red head. It is not that I don’t mind going, it is the fact that I will not be at home being lazy. And I have to go buy all these grocery items for the family get-together. Yes, I was told this about 20 minutes ago after I’ve been asking for the whole week. 20 minutes ago was 10:30 PM! Talking about waiting until the last minute. Of course I still have not been given the list of things I need to get, just that I will have to get some edibles. Does anyone else have a spouse that is a bit slow in telling you things?
I live in a jungle
I hate it when I can’t go out and work on my yard. The grass out here grows like… like… uhm a weed. And the ground is so wet that it feels like you are walking on soaked sponges. Now I have to cut grass with a push lawn mower, over 2 acres with a push mower (hint: anyone want to buy me a riding mower). Yes, the typical results are that just when I get one section mowed another section needs to be mowed again. I never seem to finish mowing and I have to do other yard work in there some time.
You are freakin’ kidding me. The low is going to be in the 30′s (°F)! In April no less.
I’m guess we will be going to someone’s house for Easter as my wife has not informed me of what our plans will be. I am always the last to know and the first person to have to get something to take with us, though I am usually told about this at the last possible moment.
I guess y’all other married men have never had that happen.
At least the flood waters are starting to reside in the local rivers though there is some more rain expected later. I feel for the people who have been flooded out and hope thing improve for them soon.
It is actually boring here right now, well not a work but at home. I mow grass when I can and try to keep the pool clean.
Water and shopping
It never fails. No matter how much you plan, prepare, and labor you never get your shopping done. I have this list of things that I need to get and manage to get NONE of it. Yes, shopping for four hours and nothing. I did get some other items not on the list, but everywhere we went the stuff we were looking for were either out of stock or just not carried. Waiting in the eye doctor’s office for four hours did not help things. By the time we left the office everyone was already tired and wanted to go home. I guess next Saturday I will be going shopping by myself.
I need to add that this was the once a month, travel an hour to the bigger city, shopping trip – not the usual every week trip.
On our way we manage to get a glimpse of the rivers in the area… let’s just say that the crest now expected on Tuesday and another two to five feet higher that reported yesterday is going to force a lot of people to higher ground. In my twenty years of living in this area, I have never seen this much water in the rivers.
