TGIF May 22, 2009

Posted by: Yoggie    in Wistful Meanderings

Yes!  The work week is over and the long weekend has begun!  Am I planning on relaxing this weekend, take some time to sit in the sun and chill to some beach band?  Heck no, this is my extended weekend…

  1. Fix the lawn mowers (yes, plural).
  2. Repair the pool, the parts are in.
  3. Put up a fence.  Yes, it means dig post holes and string fencing as well.
  4. Mow lawn.
  5. Clean bathrooms.  I can’t get anyone in my house to do it so it is up to me.
  6. Fix food for a family having a funeral.
  7. Work on other people’s websites.
  8. If I have the time, work on my websites.
  9. Reconfigure the home network.

Yeah, I’ve got a lot of free time this weekend.

Have a safe and happy Memorial Day.

Too polite to say

Posted by: Yoggie    in Wistful Meanderings

I received a note from a secret admirer today.

No, I do not know who it is, that would defeat the whole point of secret wouldn’t it.  I am really clueless as to who it might be as who would want to admire me as I am fat, balding, and smell like day old cheese dip.

So how do you let your secret admirer know that you are interested in at least being friends?  And before you get all huffy about me being married and “interested”, my wife and I have a open marriage with limits and it will take too long to go over the limit list.

But seriously, how do you let the other person know?  I can’t just go up to everyone that could have my address and ask if she/he is the one admiring moi.

I guess I’ll never know.

Fame, living the life of the rich and famous

Posted by: Yoggie    in Wistful Meanderings

Sometimes I wonder if there is some conspiracy or evil alien plot that changes people when they acquire wealth and/or fame.  I have seen so many actors, writers, etc. go from being regular people to some sort of ass for brains the minute they get their fame.  We see it all the time, an actor is nobody then suddenly she/he gets THE PART and along with it the fame and they go into this phase were they lose total control of their vices and whims. There is not a week that goes by when an actor isn’t being arrested or punished for doing something that before they would have never done.  Of course there are those nimrods that were just stupid to begin with and fame just made it newsworthy.

I think there is some alien parasite being introduced into the famous population in a bid to pave the way for alien invasion or to eat our brains.

Or it could be clowns trying to get back at us for all the bad publicity.

Move along, move along

Posted by: Yoggie    in Wistful Meanderings

Nothing to see here, just a man going nuts trying to satisfy customers.

Yes, it is gearing up to be one of those weeks where I will be puling what little hair I have left out trying to satisfy customers’ wants in their software.  I’ve already had the “small” list of changes that we didn’t “discuss” at the beginning of the project, changes that would have been mush easier to implement had they not been mentioned so late in the actual coding of the programs.

That’s life in IT.  At least I’m not getting the request that networking and system admin get on a regular basis concerning incompatibility of purchased software with out system, purchases I might add that were not even run by the IT experts before the software was bought.

And you wanted to get into IT.

Sunday wasn’t as bad as Saturday

Posted by: Yoggie    in Wistful Meanderings

I woke up bright and early again today.  There must be some switch in my head that is screwed up and waking me up early on weekends when I could actually sleep late.  It better not happen next weekend (it is Memorial Day weekend next weekend after all).

I decided I would try my hand at putting up a dog pen that was been on the to-do list for the last six months.  Got outside with my tools and gloves and moved the hardware to the spot we are putting the pin and realized there were no instructions on how to put it together.  Now this is not one of those pre-fenced all-in-one just hook the panels together type of pens, no, this is a million pipes, screws, clamps, and wires type set up.  I manage to convince the previous owner to come over and tell me how to put it together.  Once it was explained to me that all the pipes made the top and bottom of the pen and the remaining pipes held up the top and bottom rectangles made be the other pipes that I was able to figure out the rest.  Unfortunately we made a discovery that some of the nuts, not the bolts which I would have assumed would have run away with the nuts or just run away solo, were missing.  About that time the storm on the horizon is no longer on the horizon but right on top of us and it was packing a load of lightening for the rest of the day.

So I will be going to the hardware store Monday to get some more nuts and maybe I can get that pen finished this evening.

Then I get to start on the repairs to the pool.

Saturday is awash

Posted by: Yoggie    in Wistful Meanderings

  • Woke up around 7 AM.  I guess I cannot sleep late.
  • Breakfast – the milk has gone bad so no cereal for me so I guess it is buttered toast or nothing.
  • Nice clear day so I’ll mow grass.  I guess I can only mow part of the lawn as the blade in my riding mower suddenly bent and is now plowing.
  • Took two hours to remove the blade carriage on my and realized that they put the blade on with a pneumatic wrench!  Guess I will take the carriage to the repair shop.
  • Repair shop closed early today.  I guess I will go some other day.
  • Temperature suddenly in the 90’s and rising quickly.  Best hurry and use the weed eater around the edge of the house.
  • Is that rain?
  • Yes, it is rain so run and put the electric weed eater in the shed and get the dog inside.
  • Take a shower – where is the hot water? Someone just took a shower before me and used all the hot water.
  • After a cold shower, let us slow cook some chili for dinner.  Ground beef I took out of the freezer and put in the fridge two days ago is still frozen.  I guess no chili.
  • Let’s try the country-fried beef fritters I took out of the freezer this morning.  They are thawed.  Okay, so they cooked well.
  • Some people just don’t understand that no matter how much pepper you add to something, if it taste like cardboard before, it will taste like cardboard with pepper afterwards.  Yes, the country-fried beef fritters I will not be buying again.
  • Watch a little TV then go to bed – or not.  Fell asleep watching a good movie and no one woke me up so that I could sleep in my bed.
  • Now wide awake and blogging.

Middle of the week blues

   Posted by: Yoggie    in Errata

It is Wednesday (the day named for Woden, or Odin for you other people) and I am still not feeling too good.  The world is still spinning on occasion (not the normal spinning, the personal spinning around moi) and I smell this unpleasant odor all the time, one I can only describe as brown-turquoise.

What?  You never associated odors with colors?

Also, I seem to have developed a bad case of dandruff, like suddenly, with a vengeance.

It never rains, just pours… which goes back to the rainy weather we have been having all week, well so far, and it looks as if it will keep up as well.
