Torchwood: Children of Earth

Posted by: Yoggie    in TV and TV Reviews

Has anyone been watching Torchwood: Children of Earth on BBC America this week?  It is the 5-day miniseries that is taking place of a regular season of Torchwood and it is running Monday through Friday of this week.  The plot is that some alien force is mind controlling the children of Earth and sending cryptic messages and it has something to do with an incident in the 1960’s.  The first two episodes were okay, though it seems that it was a bit plodding at times.  I guess you have to lay the groundwork for the big finish and sometimes it takes a bit of background and exposition to get to that point. I’ll stick with the miniseries until the end.

Of course I could look at Eve Myles and John Barrowman the whole time.

Dark moods

Posted by: Yoggie    in Personal, Wistful Meanderings

Boy have I been in a dark mood lately.  I’ve gotten into this funk that I can’t seem to get out of no matter how I try.  I don’t know what exactly brought it on, though I have an idea about a few things that might have caused it (before you make assumptions, it is not due to a person).  I’ve always been a bit broody and dark, but not usually that much so.  It makes emo look like a bright sunny outlook.  I’ve tried to cheer myself up, but it just ain’t happening, though I have had a few bright spots (and you know who you are pretty smile).

Don’t worry, I’ll get out of it eventually.

Is this July or November?

   Posted by: Yoggie    in Weather

What is with the weather on the East Coast of the U.S. this week?  We have been having record low temperatures lately.  This is usually the time when the temperature gets its highest.  This afternoon I actually saw leaves falling out of trees!  Tonight Atlanta is expected to have temperatures in the low 60’s and we are supposed to get down in the mid-60’s.  I’m not complaining about the cool weather but I am concerned that this maybe either a sign of some really hot weather on the close of summer or a really, really cold winter.

No Friday Five this week

Posted by: Yoggie    in Wistful Meanderings

There is no Friday Five so far this week and I was actually on time for once.  Normally the Friday Five is up by now so I‘m guessing it is really late or we are not having one this week.

Yes, I did get to sleep late today, later that I usually do.  Late as in 9 AM late.  I’ve never been one that could sleep until the afternoon.

Got some grocery shopping done and boy was it a big bill.  I’m gonna have to put the cats and dogs on a diet, that stuff is getting expensive.

I have a bunch I people on IM that are dying to speak to me, one that is having problems with her website and wants me to fix it for her (yes, she batted those beautiful eyes at me again and I became her slave IT person).

Sleep perchance to rest

Posted by: Yoggie    in Wistful Meanderings

I actually feel a little more rested today that I did not get to bed as early as I planned.  Work was the same-old-same-old with the exception that we found out in a meeting that yet another person is leaving the team.  With budget cuts and such with the state, we can’t fill the position until a month after the person leaves meaning that not only will that knowledge not be passed from the person leaving to the new person but that we will be yet more understaffed than before.  And I see no blue skies in the near future.  At this rate I’ll be the only one left by the end of the year. No one wants to get a job with the state with all of the financial woes because you never know if you’ll even be getting a paycheck next month.  And he IT people we need are in the sector of the employment picture that has one of the lowest unemployment rates and one of the shortest waits between jobs.   Recessions his state agencies hard.

Too old for young experiences

Posted by: Yoggie    in Health, Wistful Meanderings

I am still suffering from the lack of sleep from Tuesday night (or rather Wednesday morning) and to top it all off I have a sinus headache too.

What happened today, was it better than Monday the 13th? Some of it was better, some was worse.  Sometimes you just can’t please customers.  And don’t even ask them to test program mods, they get all whiney sometimes.  You hear this all the time from IT people and it is true.  I had someone over to help with the repairs on my PC after the Monday fiasco and was sorely tempted to be a whiney customer.

I’ll be glad when the weekend gets here so I can rest.

I was forced to go see Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince early this morning (midnight showing).  It was okay, nothing I really would have lost sleep over to see.  I have never really understood the need to wait in line for three hours (and we bought our tickets in advance on-line) to see a movie.  Forced to see the movie, no one can force you to see a movie… they can if they have someone drop out in the group and a ticket is going to be wasted if I didn’t go.  I was going to see the movie anyway, but at a more reasonable time.

Now, I’ve been sleepy all day.  The others in the group had the day off in advanced, not like I can just suddenly take a day off because I went to see a movie
