I am still suffering from the lack of sleep from Tuesday night (or rather Wednesday morning) and to top it all off I have a sinus headache too.

What happened today, was it better than Monday the 13th? Some of it was better, some was worse.  Sometimes you just can’t please customers.  And don’t even ask them to test program mods, they get all whiney sometimes.  You hear this all the time from IT people and it is true.  I had someone over to help with the repairs on my PC after the Monday fiasco and was sorely tempted to be a whiney customer.

I’ll be glad when the weekend gets here so I can rest.

I have been dizzy and weak all day to the point of not going to work today.  I don’t know what I’ve got, but my daughter has it as well and we are both not happy campers.  Sorry, not update, no comics, no links today.

Though technically this is not an opinion piece, but rather a look at the issue, I will tag is as opinion because I am basically too tired to go back over the source materials and link to the sources.

There has been a great deal of discussion lately about socialized health care with many people just going to the extreme to convince others that we are heading toward a communist state even just thinking about the topic and that democracy will fall if we even let one bit of socialism in the system.  Here are a few points I would like to make:

1. “Socialism will take away our right to vote” – Socialism is an economic theory just like capitalism, it is not a form of government.  You can have extreme socialized systems and still have democracy and choice in everything.  They are not mutually exclusive.
2. “Socialized health care is just the tip of the iceberg for more socialism” -  Uhm, sorry to break the news to you, but we have been practicing a limited form of socialism since the founding of our government.  Even the founding fathers advocated that the government had a responsibility to administer certain programs and services.  We have been in our history much more socialistic than the USSR ever was.
3. “Socialized healthcare does not work, it failed in other countries” – In what countries has it failed? The British dental problems? The problems British people have with their dentals has nothing to do with healthcare and everything to do with their view of dentistry… basically, the British hate dentist more than we do and just plain refuse to go.  Stories of people denied critical medical care always boil down to people not the system, people too involved in the bureaucracy to get thing done.  Sounds like the problem with have with our own insurance companies.  More people die from insurance companies refusing to pay for necessary procedures than do from systems run by a government.  I keep reading about all these people in England not getting medical care and I’m wondering were are all the stories about the people in the U.S. that don’t get the needed care… their stories are there just buried deeper in the news.
4. “It will destroy the economy, cause higher taxes” – No, the economy will not bomb just because some insurance companies will finally have to start competing for customers.  Currently, insurance companies charge what they can get away with because there are no alternatives.  This may not bother people with plenty of money, but those of us struggling to get by it is a constant worry and juggling act – do I get insurance in case I get sick because I sure can’t afford the medical and hospital bills or do I pay the rent and buy food.  And the cost just keeps getting higher faster than the rate of inflation.  Yes, your taxes will be higher, but you will not be paying that high insurance premium.  You end up probably with the same cost in the end BUT you and everyone will be covered.  You lose your job, you would still be covered by the government, the insurance companies presently drop you like a hot potato if you lose work.
5. “The government has a poor record of administrating, it is not the government’s job to provide health care” – Oh really, I guess we don’t have roads, Social Security, hospitals, schools, jobs, and all the other things we could have only gotten through the government because industry didn’t see a financial return.  The government is not perfect as it is made up of people, that is why we have a cycle of elections.  You don’t like it, vote the person out. At least with the government you can complain about something and have some reasonable assurance that something will be done.  Try getting that in the marketplace.  Most companies will ignore any complaints no matter how many if it doesn’t effect the intake of money.  Remember, you have no choice in the current commercial health care system, you get what they give you and you have no voice in the process.  And no one will be turned away from the government.  There is not a week that goes by when there is not a news story about someone losing insurance or not able to get insurance because of some pre-existing health problem.

I could go on for pages about this.  I have yet to have anyone come up with a valid argument against socialized healthcare or even a valid argument for commercial healthcare.

I woke up this morning with pains in my chest (not the heart kind, more in the lung area) and a throbbing behind my right eye.  Normally I would just find my inhaler that I never use and let that ease the pain enough to get through the day.  Normally.  I don’t normally start sneezing and coughing blood so I decide I might need to pay the doctor a visit.  Before you get all upset and worried, it seems that I have some heavy congestion in my lungs (something that has come up in the past, just not this bad) and some of the scar tissue in the sinuses around my cheeks and behind my eyes started bleeding.  It seems I have another sinus infection and the enough bleeding occurred (though not really a considerable amount) that the sinus cavities fill up enough that it caused pressure.

I had a feeling things were going too well.  I’ll be back on my feet tomorrow, just not quite as vigorous.

Mondays should be outlawed.  I don’t know why I am so tired today.  I slept well enough last night.  I guess the lack of full sleep on Thursday is catching up with me.

I sure *ouch* pick a good *ouch* time to start *cringe-pain* to blog. I did something to my right *pause due to pain* hand, somewhere under my thumb in my palm, *hurt* and it is coming in waves of pain… not sever pain, but *shooting pain* kinda like someone beat my hand with a baseball bat and it bruised my palm. If I sit still (like I have time for that) the pain goes away for a little while. I guess I did *pain all the way up my arm* something bad when I installed the doggie door this weekend. You see, I had to use this big ass electric hand jig saw kinda like this one  because my *ouch shoulder twinge* smaller one would not hold the blade. I couldn’t take the door off and I had to cut the opening while the door was still vertical.  You imagine  this heavy, super-vibrating piece of stubborn equipment trying to cut through a fire door while you are in an awkward sitting position *please kick in soon pain pills* by yourself.  Well, I shouldn’t say by myself as I had help from very inquisitive kittens that were anxious to use the doggie door.  After installing the door, caulking the edges (we don’t want the elements to get in around the door do we), and cleaning up, we had our doggie door that the dog refused to use.  It was only after we declined to let the dog out the traditional way that the dog used the doggie door to go out and bark at our neighbors.  Now all I have to do is put the the fence around the back door and we can leave the dog at home during the day instead of with a sitter.

Must remember to close the doggie door when I get home so the blasted dog doesn’t get out and chase the neighbors.

Yes, I’ve been sick and bed-ridden the past few day hence no Twitter or posts.  I’ll see about making some of one or the other later today.

Best laid plans, and not so best laid, tend to get mired in mucky, yucky stuff at the most inopportune times. Yeah, I was supposed to post again Saturday night but I ended up falling asleep right after I posted the Friday Five which also mean I missed all my movies that I had planned to watch that night. Don’t be discouraged, the same thing happened Sunday night… and I was gonna have debauchery-type sex too. I can blame it on the medication my ENT specialist gave me.

Yes, I went to an ENT (Ear-Nose-Throat) specialist last week as per the pain of death order from my general physician. It seems I have the stuff that was fixed again, stuff like icky drainage, swollen membranes, scar tissue, and such that caused my problems earlier in life. And to top it all off, my tubes are still in my ear. I could have sworn they fell out, but the tubes have set up permanent residence on my ear drums… well one of them has, the other is INSIDE my ear drum. So the well meaning doctor gave me stuff to get the swelling down in my ears, but neglected to tell me that the minute the liquid hits my ears that I get the sensation of REALLY HOT NEEDLES BORING INTO MY SENSITIVE EARS. Twice daily! And then some more steroids, and some more drugs and I have to shoot salt water up my nose.

Can you understand why I am nor real happy at the moment. Being a zombie with hot needles driving into my head twice a day is not my idea of a good time.

Maybe if I look at this pretty young woman I can forget my woes.

Whomever has that voodoo doll of me and is using it as hot poker practice, please cease and desist. I am tired of being sick, swollen, and in pain and the magic you are using on me is getting a little old. Come on, if you want me to be your sex slave all you have to do is ask. I am fairly reasonable.. and kinky. So please allow me some time to heal so that I can get back to my normal life.

Yes, it seems I am still sick. Not as bad as I was, but not near 100% either.

But the drugs the doctor gave me has some really cool side effects like lurid and vivid dreams about really hot babes like actress/model Ariel Carmine (warning: adult content).

I’ll do my best to get some post off today as well as last week’s Friday Five.
