Pizza – the new veggie

   Posted by: Yoggie

Yes, it seems the GOP has so little to do that they want to call pizza a vegetable. Yes, you read correctly, a vegetable. See the article here Congress: Schools Can Count Pizza as a Vegetable – Q13 Fox News.

Pizza is not a veggie, it is a dish, a pie, or a meal.

Even though the GOP is saying that tomato paste and not pizza (thought the GOP seems to think the sauce on a pizza is the only place tomato paste is used) is a veggie, tomato past IS NOT A VEGETABLE. It is MADE from vegetables (namely tomatoes), but it contains high amounts of sodium and sugar. The point is that is should not count to replace the veggies that should be in the meal.

All the Agriculture Department wanted to do was say that you had to add veggies on the side if you had pizza.

What makes it so bad is that the food companies, salt manufacturers, and potato growers (the Ag Dept wants to limit french fries too) are the ones pushing for GOP to make the Ag Dept back down. Yes, big business is trying to write more legislation at our and our children’s expense.

I love this part, “some conservatives in Congress say the federal government shouldn’t be telling children what to eat”. (Source referenced – Tomato sauce on pizza is a vegetable, says Congress; GOP says healthier school lunches are too expensive – NewYorkDailyNews.com)The Fed is not telling them what to eat, the Fed is telling schools that are getting federally subsidized meals to serve healthy meals. The kids can bring their own lunches or just not eat the food, the kids have the choice.

Yes, I can hear you now. Poor kids don’t have a choice. You people saying that are the same trying to take their free lunches, which these kids need and need healthy ones at that, away.

If you want federal money, you have to take federal regulations… even if it means that your kid will have to eat healthy food.

I remember taking my lunch to school for years because not only did the food suck, but is was so unhealthy and fat laden that is would make you physically ill… and I would eat anything back then.

Censorship again?

   Posted by: Yoggie

I just emailed Congress to urge them to oppose the Internet Blacklist Legislation, known as the PROTECT-IP Act in the Senate and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the House. This legislation seeks to give the executive branch power to conduct slash-and-burn campaigns against websites that allegedly host – or even link to – content that infringes on intellectual property rights. That would “disappear” whole domain names, fundamentally undermining Internet security, and/or choke off their financial support. The Internet Blacklist Legislation puts more sites than ever at risk, effectively upending the DMCA safe harbors that have been crucial to the growth of Internet innovation and creativity.

Sadly, these short-sighted and dangerous bills won’t do much to stop online infringement – but they will jeopardize our ability to speak and read online with the kind of freedom we cherish in the offline world. Deep-pocketed Hollywood lobbyists are aggressively pushing to control and censor the open Internet, willing to sacrifice free speech and our Internet culture in hopes of controlling how people view their movies and products.

We need to stop this bill before it goes any further. Will you contact your representatives in Congress and urge them to oppose the Internet Blacklist Legislation? Visit: https://eff.org/r.C8A

Summer going going…..

   Posted by: Yoggie

You only have a few hours of Summer left (at the time of writing you have 7 hours and 59 minutes left) so enjoy what there is of it before the spectre of Autumn comes rolling around about 5:18 PM local time.

Autumn is my favorite time of the year and the weather currently is reflecting the change of the seasons.

Oops! Can we have a redo?

   Posted by: Yoggie

It seems that the swearing in wasn’t quite up to snuff yesterday as Obama had to be sworn in again today.  Yeah, I noticed that the justice had flubbed the oath and got Obama a bit flustered when he tried to say the oath correctly.

To those how are concerned, yes, my wife is doing better.  She is still in pan, but not near as much as yesterday.  I did the noble thing and stay with her again today (after taking the kids to school and quelling a minor rebellion at work).  Thank you for the concerned emails and well-wishing.

New President

   Posted by: Yoggie

Barack H. Obama is now our 44th president.  I was watching on CNN.com and using the Facebook interface to keep up with friends who watch of television.  I have to say that the speech was inspiring, something along the lines I would have expected JFK to make had he been elected today.

The President has a long, hard road ahead of him.

Did anyone notice how quiet it was when ‘W’ came out as opposed to the fan-fair that greeted Obama?

And I could swear that the justice of the peace swearing in Obama had the oath of office wrong, though Obama said them in the correct order.  I’ll have to check the recording on my TV.

Tomorrow?

   Posted by: Yoggie

Just in case you forgot.. TOMORROW IS VALENTINE’S DAY!  Panic!  You have only a few hours to get that girl a really big bouquet of roses or she’ll use you as a bowling pin on Friday night… and not in the good way either.

Yes, I have arranged for my flowers to be delivered, chocolates to received, and kisses to be stolen.

So remember, stimulate the economy and by flowers for all your girls.

Happy Chinese New Year

   Posted by: Yoggie

Happy Chinese New Year to everyone.

rat_year 2008

I’m guessing from the media blitz that this is the year of the Earth Rat or SHU.  So people born this year are supposed to be characterized as smart, likable, take charge, protective, and a bit on the selfish side with the Earth sign make this person more grounded and stabilized.

Brown Rat

So have a good year everyone!
