Day for myself

   Posted by: Yoggie

I don’t believe it. I actually got a day to myself to just do what I want! I took in a local college baseball game after doing some window shopping (I’m looking to buy a riding lawnmower) and went so far as to get some stadium food. You parents out there will appreciate how precious is a little “me” time.

Too bad there is nothing on TV tonight.

Welcome February 2009

   Posted by: Yoggie

As you have probably heard by now, the Pittsburgh Steelers have won the Super Bowl (27-23 over the Arizona Cardinals).  The game was pretty good this year, going down to the last few seconds of the game with some exciting touchdowns and offensive/defensive maneuverings.   The commercials were okay.  I like the one about the moon buggy and the homage to the old Coke Mean Joe Green commercial.

Snacks were consumed at my house, as well as some chili, but not in great quantities. No one seemed hungry.

Next up, March Madness.

Football, what football?

   Posted by: Yoggie

I was informed by my wife yesterday evening that we will be watching the Philadelphia Eagles at the Arizona Cardinals NFC Championship game and the Baltimore Ravens at the Pittsburgh Steelers AFC Championship game.  Reason given:  it is going to snow at both places.  I think she forgot that the Cardinal’s stadium is a dome, though it does have that cool retractable playing field.

Durn it! The Falcons lost in the 2008 wildcard playoffs.

Yes,I am quite perturbed… and upset… no to mention mentally disturbed, but that is another fish on the hotcake.

My upset is right up there with the news that the arena football season (2009) has been canceled.

And, no, I will not be watching any more football this season… that is until I get this overwhelming urge to watch the SuperBowl.

And there is nothing on TV.

Falcons are in the playoffs!!!!!!!!

   Posted by: Yoggie

Yes!  The Atlanta Falcons are in the playoffs! After the win today over the Vikings and losses by both Dallas and Tampa Bay, the Falcons have clinched at least a wildcard spot in the NFC playoffs and a possibility of a NFC South division championship tie if Carolina (11-3) loses tonight and next week and Atlanta (10-5) wins next week. A little gleam of hope as Carolina has to play the Giants (11-3 overall, 6-1 home) this week at New York and the Saints (8-7 overall, 6-1 home)next week at New Orleans (on a winning streak) with Carolina a 3-3 on the road.

I feel sorry for the Detroit Lions and the ignoble honor of being the first team to be 0-15. And next week doesn’t look any better with facing Green Bay at Green Bay (5-9 overall, 3-4 home).  They may end up in history as the first team to go 0-16.

Pats, Giants, 17-14. What a crap fest! You know a football game is going to suck when one team has the ball for almost 10 minutes and scores only 3 points. Item two of suckage: The scoring happens in the first quarter (okay, 3 seconds into the second quarter) and the fourth quarter. It looked more like a game played during pre-season.

The commercials… maybe two or three were good, but the rest pretty much were a pain to watch. I liked the Bridgestone tire commercial with Alice Cooper and Richard Simmons (swerving at the last possible moment to miss Richard out of a guilty conscience), the Coke Macy Christmas parade balloons, and the FedEx pigeons ( for originality). An no, I don’t consider the kick-arse Iron Man trailer a commercial in the same sense.

Now Tom Petty was pretty good in a mini-concert way. I mean, how can you mess up with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers? Maybe it should have been the other way around – Tom Petty in concert with a 15 minute Super Bowl game.

Did anyone else seem to have problems with the viewing screen during the broadcast? I noticed that the announcers were too "red" in the face and the graphics in the commercials were cut-off on the left side. I have a HD/digital TV in the room we were viewing the game and switching from widescreen, to movie, to sidebar, and to full screen did not help with the cut-off graphics. I checked the TV with the other channels and none of them had the color or cut-off problems.

Feeling: smile_yawn tired

Are you ready for some football play-offs?

   Posted by: Yoggie

The NCAA Division I-AA play-offs start this Saturday (November 27)! Did your favorite I-AA college team make it this year?(link is to pdf file) Mine did and I’m goin’ to be rootin’ for alma mater to go all the way. So don’t call me Saturday ’cause I’m gonna be in the loud house pullin’ for my team.

And for those of you who care about the NFL… the Falcons won again! My boys are 8 and 2 for the season and have a 4 game lead in the division. With six more games to go, the play-offs are on the horizon.

And don’t miss the Thanksgiving Day games Indianapolis at Detroit @ 12:37 p.m. on CBS and Chicago at Dallas @ 4:35 p.m. on FOX.

Don’t worry, college baseball is starting soon.

And in rode the four horsemen….

Red Sox won! Red Sox won! Red Sox won!

So I guess the curse is lifted. About damn time.

But is this a sign of the coming Apocalypse? We did have a lunar eclipse last night.

And if you believe these two nimrods, then the end is imminent.

Pre-Baseball 2004

   Posted by: Yoggie

Yes people, it is fast coming to that time. Major League Baseball is looming near. Pitchers have already reported, other players will be reporting this week. Pre-season games start March 2. Official opening day for the 2004 season is April 4th.

Atlanta Braves‘ season starts on April 6th.

Of course, college baseball started a couple of weeks ago.

What does all this mean? The living room TV will be showing nothing but baseball until November… to the dismay of the kids.

SuperBowl XXXVIII, back to normal

   Posted by: Yoggie

I knew it couldn’t last. I should have known the second the first commercial played during the SuperBowl that the game was going to suck. How you ask. If the commercials don’t suck, the game does. This is a rule that has been proven time and again. I knew it once the first Bud Light commercial aired. And each successive Bud Light commercial.

And no one scored until halfway through the second quarter! And they kept missing simple field goals. And whose stupid idea was for the Panthers to go for two points…. twice! Both teams suddenly forgot how to play football. If they had played that way during the play-offs, neither team would have made it.

Man, what a crappy game. And I’m still pissed that Carolina lost.

At least the commercials were good. Okay, the Bud commercials were good. I really like the one with the two guys comparing what their dogs could do. And then there was the bikini wax. And there was the donkey. The hair extensions had me rolling on the floor.

If you don’t know what I am talking about then you missed on heck of a set of commercials. You can get all of the SuperBowl commercials at IFILM. I recommend the Bud Light: Fergus, Bud Light! one.

And like the NFL commercial said, all the teams are now undefeated. Atlanta is going to the SuperBowl! Just you wait and see.
